During my artist residency at EUTOPIA in Kavala, Greece, I fell in love with making ceramics. There was something magical about working with clay, discovering its possibilities and allowing the material to guide me. Back in the Netherlands, I continued this journey at Vrije Academie Parkstad, where I created my very first ceramic work: Henk. Henk represents the darkness within your soul, or in your life, that place where you believe the light will never return. People often tell me they don’t understand why he is called Henk. And that’s exactly what makes the name meaningful to me. Giving the darkness a name makes it smaller, more familiar, less frightening. I am always bigger than Henk and the snake is always smaller than Henk. For me, Henk is about perspective, vulnerability and reclaiming your power. The darkness may be part of your story, but it doesn't have to define you.

Meet Henk. A little reminder that you are bigger than the darkness you carry.
